Acne & Scarred Skin

Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. This leads to the formation of various types of pimples, including whiteheads, blackheads, pustules, cysts, and nodules. Acne is most commonly found on the face, forehead, chest, upper back, and shoulders. While most commonly in teenagers, this can occur at all ages.
What causes Acne?
- Excess Oil Production
- Clogged Hair Follicles
- Bacteria
- Hormonal Changes
- Genetics
- Diet
- Stress
Acne scarring occurs when the deeper layers of the skin are damaged due to severe acne, particularly cystic acne, which penetrates deep into the skin. The body’s natural healing process involves producing collagen, but the amount produced can vary, leading to different types of scars. There are various types of Ance scars, including atrophic scars (depression of the skin) and hypertrophic scars (raised scars caused by excessive tissue). Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur, which causes darkening of the skin site of the healed acne.
While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all cure for acne, it can often be effectively managed and controlled. The success of treatment depends on the type and severity of your acne, as well as factors like skin type, age, and lifestyle.
